Field work in Western Australia – a typical day for MBGS’ exploration geologists - February 2022

Several of our geologists have been working on a greenfields mineral exploration project in a remote part of Western Australia.

Their working day starts with sunrise and finishes with the sunset. Just the drive to drill site makes the job special due to the contrast of colours, driving on red soil toward the horizon and a clear blue sky.

Greenfield exploration in Western Australia has many challenges but the weather is perhaps the most significant.

Temperatures reach up to 45°C during the summer, hot enough to fry an egg. The rare rain event is welcome!

Another challenge is the flies. They get up at crack of dawn just to see how many times they can fly in and out of your mouth. Thankfully they disappear as the sun begins to set.

Exploration has focused on directional RC drilling but has also included infill core drilling.

There is a great crew here who work together to ensure it is a safe operation for the team while collecting high-quality data.

Temperatures plummet quickly after sunset. This sees the team often ending the day relaxing around the campfire.
