MBGS celebrates 45th Anniversary - October 2015

MBGS are happy to be celebrating a significant industry milestone of 45 years in business, one of if not the longest continuing consultancies in Australia’s coal industry. Since 1970 MBGS have sustained a commitment to quality, performance and professional integrity. From its humble beginnings as a small operation based in Sydney with Dr Clifford McElroy and Dr John Bryan, growing to a team of over 50 geologists, MBGS have continued to deliver valued service and support to the coal mining industry.

MBGS have always had a long term vision and are very proud to celebrate this achievement.

Anniversaries are a time for reflection and acknowledgment. “As with all journeys we have had our share of challenges riding the cyclic wave of the booms and busts throughout the decades, but we remain strong to this day” Kerry Whitby, Managing Director of MBGS said. “We are very grateful to all our staff, past and present, and our clients and associations within the industry who have contributed to our growth and ability to deliver industry leading practices. It is due to their commitment and trust that we celebrate this achievement”.

And as MBGS celebrates this 45 year milestone, many of its people have reached their own professional milestones, having achieved 10+ and 20+ years of dedicated service to MBGS. “Our people have passion and determination. There is a reason many of us here at MBGS have reached our own personal company milestones.  We have put a lot of effort into creating a strong competency-based interactive culture” said Charles Parbury, General Manager of Commercial Operations. “At MBGS we pride ourselves in not only providing quality support to the industry but also to one another”.

Operating in remote locations for extended periods can be challenging, but Charles recognises the importance of professional and personal support. “We are incredibly fortunate to have a highly talented, unique and likeable team of geologists who have been carefully selected to best represent our culture”.

As the mining industry has evolved so too have MBGS, developing and nurturing professional advancement within the MBGS team in conjunction with close client relationships. As a result, after four and a half decades MBGS have grown as a globally recognised company supporting the transformation of exploration targets into operating mines that are among the world’s most successful.

“In 1970 when Dr Cliff McElroy and I established our business we knew that employing the right people would be the key to success. Geologists who were honest and hardworking, who maintained a high standard of ethics, and whose number one priority was doing the best job possible for the client” said Dr John Bryan, Chairman of MBGS.

“The vision that Dr McElroy and Dr Bryan had in that small office 45 years ago continues today” said Rob Dyson, General Manager, Operations “We pride ourselves on providing clients with the best advice – without fear, favour or bias”.

Looking forward Kerry Whitby said “We have developed a largely staff-owned business model that has enabled the company to survive and thrive through four significant geological downturns in the cyclical mining industry since 1970.  We have created ways to hold our team together through the current difficult working environment that commenced in late 2012.  With the support of our many long term clients/partners we are looking forward to providing our services for a long time to come”.
