Congratulations to John Bryan, Chairman at MBGS, who was recently listed in the long-serving members list of the AusIMM. John has had a broad and interesting career in geology and continues to work in a consulting capacity at MBGS.
In 1965, when John joined the AUSIMM, he was employed at the NSW Department of Mines , having graduated from UNSW in 1964. John was then involved with regional mapping in Central Western NSW, and also compiled the Sydney 1:250,000 Geology Map which is still the current large scale geology map of the Sydney region. In 1966 John took up a position at UNSW as a Tutor and PhD student. This was converted into a position of Lecturer in Stratigraphy, which he held till July 1970 when John joined Clifford McElroy and Associates, the Company which is now known as MBGS. John completed his PhD in 1975, and became the Managing Director of MBGS in 1979. Since 1970 John has worked on projects throughout Australia and around the world, with a career highlight being mapping projects in Antarctica.
